Zoom Whitening

Whether patients want a confidence boost or just to look their best, whitening remains the most-requested cosmetic dental procedure. But with increasing demands on their time, today’s patients want whitening options that fit their lifestyle and fast results with little or no discomfort. That’s what Zoom provides.
If patients have deep stains, we have the answer. If they’re looking for quick treatment then Zoom gives you a range of options for convenient and effective whitening.

In-Office Whitening Procedure

The complete procedure takes about an hour, but a regular teeth cleaning is recommended prior to the zoom teeth whitening session. The procedure begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving teeth exposed. The dentist or dental assistant then applies the zoom whitening gel, which works together with the zoom light to penetrate the teeth and break up the stains and discoloration. the gel remains in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated. During this time you can relax, watch TV or listen to music.

Invisibly straightens your teeth with a series of custom-molded aligners.

Forget everything you’ve heard about teeth straightening. Because now there is a way that lets you get the smile you’ve always wanted without bands, brackets or wires.

A clear alternative.
By using a series of clear removable aligners, Invisalign straightens your teeth right before your eyes. Change them about every 2 weeks, your teeth will move—little by little, week by week—until they have moved to the final position your orthodontist or dentist has prescribed. Comfortable to wear, our aligners are also removable so you can eat, drink, brush, and floss as usual.

Treatment time.
A typical Invisalign case takes about a year from start to finish. You’ll see your doctor every month or two to see how you’re progressing. Every few visits you’ll be given additional aligners to continue your treatment. Commonly, the number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but treatment time and number of aligners will vary from case to case.

Invisible. And comfortable.
Invisalign is an invisible solution. So you won’t draw undue attention to your mouth while in treatment. In fact, virtually no one will know you’re wearing them unless you tell. Comfortable to wear, our aligners are also removable so you can eat, drink, brush, and floss as usual.

Look your best during treatment.

Unobtrusive in business meetings or social gatherings

No metal wires or bands to irritate your mouth

Most people won’t notice you’re wearing aligners

A veneer is a thin porcelain shell that is bonded to a tooth to improve its color and shape. A veneer covers the front and top of a tooth, and can be used to close spaces between the teeth, lengthen small or misshapen teeth, or whiten stained or discoloured teeth. When teeth are chipped or beginning to wear, veneers can protect them from damage and restore their original appearance.

Why Do We Use Porcelain Veneers ?

Teeth are slightly crooked or stained

Teeth are chipped

Gaps between teeth

Teeth which are different in length

Veneers are the Ultimate Smile Makeover Treatment

Porcelain veneers transform the smile by concealing imperfections.

Veneers can be the solution for numerous aesthetic flaws

Veneers camouflage numerous cosmetic problems, making them an option for a wide range of patients. Chips, cracks, discolouration, and misalignment are among the flaws veneers can cover.

How Do We Restore Teeth With Porcelain Veneers?

It can take two or more appointments to restore teeth with veneers. During the first appointment, we shape and roughen the teeth. We then take impressions of your teeth, which we use to make precise working models of your mouth. On these models we craft veneers to fit the prepared teeth.

During the second appointment, we clean and polish the prepared teeth. Then we use adhesive to bond the veneers to the teeth. A harmless, high-intensity light hardens the adhesive. Once in place, veneers virtually become part of your teeth. You can use them like you would your own teeth because the bond extremely strong. The final result is beautiful and natural-looking teeth.

Care

It can take time for you get used to the appearance and feel of your new teeth. You won’t have to change the way you floss or brush, however. But you should not bite your nails, chew on pencils, ice, or hard objects, or put extreme pressure on you teeth.

The Damon System

Damon smiles are full, natural 10-teeth smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces, and are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient.

Braces are the beginning, but the system makes the smile. We combine two key components:

1. Damon passive self-ligating braces that eliminate the need for elastic or metal “ties”.
2. Approach that aligns your teeth and enhances your facial aesthetics – usually without extractions or rapid palatal expanders.

Conventional braces on the left are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.

Damon braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment.

Virtually invisible, Damon Clear is less visable over traditional braces and aligners. Damon Clear is part of the innovative Damon System, which combines tieless braces with high technology archwires that are clinically proven to move teeth fast and comfortably with truly spectacular smile and facial results.

Available at Discover Dental, Damon Clear combines the best of traditional clear braces and invisible aligners to deliver a discrete treatment experience with results that go beyond straight teeth.

Fast Treatment

See results faster than you might think. While treatment time can vary, clinical studies demonstrate that Damon System treatment is up to six months faster than traditional braces.

And while invisible aligners can be effective at straightening some crooked teeth, not everyone is a candidate. In contrast, Damon Clear works 24 hours a day, seven days a week to perfectly align ALL teeth for a phenomenal smile that enhances your entire facial appearance.

Another benefit: No need to worry about lost, misplaced or forgotten clear aligners, so you get in and out of treatment quickly.

Extraordinary Results

Clinical studies found that with Damon Clear, you get more than straight teeth. A Damon doctor will take into account your unique facial proportions when aligning your teeth, bite and smile. In no time at all you’ll have the smile and facial profile and aesthetics you’ve always dreamed about.

Greater Comfort without Tightening

Clinical studies show that the Damon System provides more comfortable orthodontic treatment than traditional braces.

Damon Clear uses tieless braces that don’t need to be “tightened” and are gentle to the teeth and tissues. Other styles of braces use elastics or active clips that bind archwires in place, which can slow down treatment and cause pain.

A Great Smile for a Lifetime

Deciding what type of treatment you want can be a difficult decision. Traditional braces, invisible aligners or Damon Clear? When making your decision, be sure to look at the big picture. Don’t focus solely on what you will experience during your time in treatment. Focus on what you will look like for the rest of your life. With Damon Clear, you’ll benefit from fast, comfortable braces that are virtually invisible during treatment. And after treatment, you’ll have a spectacular smile that goes beyond just straight teeth.

Following the end of treatment, teeth often have a tendency to return to their original positions, which is called a relapse. There are a variety of factors that may influence the possibility of relapse including the type of treatment. Damon System results are built to last. However, because all teeth have a tendency to relapse, it may be necessary to wear some type of removable retention device at night – such as a Damon Splint – following treatment.

No Speech Impediments

Some people suffer from speech impediments with invisible aligners. With Damon Clear, you don’t have to worry about any speech problems.

Few Office Visits

Damon System treatment requires fewer office visits than traditional braces and invisible aligners. On average, patients treated with the Damon System require seven fewer office appointments than patients who undergo traditional orthodontic treatment. That means more convenience for you regardless of your level of busy activity or lifestyle.

Easy to Keep Clean

Clinical studies indicate that the elastomeric rings of traditional braces collect more bacteria and plaque and can lead to adverse gingival conditions. Unlike traditional clear braces, Damon Clear does not use elastomeric rings, so your braces are easy to keep clean.

A beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime is our ultimate goal when treating patients. Your personal home care plays an important role in achieving that goal. Your personal home care starts by eating balanced meals, reducing the number of snacks you eat, and correctly using the various dental aids that help control the plaque and bacteria that cause dental disease.

Tooth brushing – Brush your teeth at least twice a day (especially before going to bed at night) with an ADA approved soft bristle brush and toothpaste.

1. Place the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums and gently brush using a small, circular motion, ensuring that you always feel the bristles on the gums.
2. Brush the outer, inner, and biting surfaces of each tooth.
3. Use the tip of the brush to clean the inside of the front teeth.
4. Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

Electric toothbrushes are also recommended. They are easy to use and can remove plaque efficiently. Simply place the bristles of the electric brush on your gums and teeth and allow the brush to do its job, several teeth at a time.

Flossing – Daily flossing is the best way to clean between the teeth and under the gumline. Flossing not only helps clean these spaces, it disrupts plaque colonies from building up, preventing damage to the gums, teeth, and bone.

1. Take 12-16 inches (30-40cm) of dental floss and wrap it around your middle fingers, leaving about 2 inches (5cm) of floss between the hands.
2. Using your thumbs and forefingers to guide the floss, gently insert the floss between teeth using a sawing motion.
3. Curve the floss into a “C” shape around each tooth and under the gumline. Gently move the floss up and down, cleaning the side of each tooth.

Floss holders are recommended if you have difficulty using conventional floss.

Rinsing – It is important to rinse your mouth with water after brushing, and also after meals if you are unable to brush. If you are using an over-the-counter product for rinsing, it’s a good idea to consult with your dentist or dental hygienist on its appropriateness for you.

Use other dental aids as recommended by your dentist or dental hygienist: Interdental brushes, rubber tip stimulators, tongue cleaners, irrigation devices, fluoride, medicated rinses, etc., can all play a role in good dental home care.

Dental Exam

A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. At regular check-up exams, your dentist and hygienist will include the following:

Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions.

Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.

Gum disease evaluation: Check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.

Examination of tooth decay: All tooth surfaces will be checked for decay with special dental instruments.

Examination of existing restorations: Check current fillings, crowns, etc.

Professional Dental Cleaning

Professional dental cleanings (dental prophylaxis) are usually performed by Registered Dental Hygienists. Your cleaning appointment will include a dental exam and the following:

Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.

Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins (poisons) that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease!

Teeth polishing: Remove stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling.

Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is used to take dental x-rays. This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping the dentist and dental hygienist detect problems easier.

Dental x-rays are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam. Dentists and dental hygienists use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities and complete an accurate treatment plan. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected.

Dental x-rays may reveal:

Abscesses or cysts.

Bone loss.

Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors.

Decay between the teeth.

Developmental abnormalities.

Poor tooth and root positions.

Problems inside a tooth or below the gum line.

Detecting and treating dental problems at an early stage may save you time, money, unnecessary discomfort, and your teeth!

Are dental x-rays safe?

Even though digital x-rays produce a low level of radiation and are considered very safe, dentists still take necessary precautions to limit the patient’s exposure to radiation. These precautions include only taking those x-rays that are necessary, and using lead apron shields to protect the body.

How often should dental x-rays be taken?

The need for dental x-rays depends on each patient’s individual dental health needs. Your dentist and dental hygienist will recommend necessary x-rays based upon the review of your medical and dental history, a dental exam, signs and symptoms, your age, and risk of disease.

A full mouth series of dental x-rays is recommended for new patients. A full series is usually good for three to five years. Bite-wing x-rays (x-rays of top and bottom teeth biting together) are taken at recall (check-up) visits and are recommended once or twice a year to detect new dental problems.

Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up maybe needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.

Reasons for tooth whitening:

Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).

Yellow, brown stained teeth.

What does tooth whitening involve?

This type of tooth whitening usually requires two visits. At the first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic, trays.

At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and be encouraged to visit your dentist regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.

Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a natural smile.

Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions.

As with most dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may someday need replacement. They are very durable and will last many years, giving you a beautiful long lasting smile.

Reasons for porcelain veneers:

Cosmetically, to create a uniform, white, beautiful smile.

Crooked teeth.

Misshapen teeth.

Severely discolored or stained teeth.

Teeth that are too small or large.

Unwanted or uneven spaces.

Worn or chipped teeth.

What does getting porcelain veneers involve?

Getting veneers usually requires two visits to complete the process, with little or no anesthesia required during the procedure. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and the dentist.

On the second visit the teeth will be cleansed with special liquids to achieve a durable bond. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light beam is used to harden and set the bond.

You will receive care instructions for veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new veneers.
