General Dentists at Discover Dental in NE Calgary hear patients express concern about needing a Root Canal. This form of dental treatment is performed to save the tooth, as the only other option would be to extract the tooth in an attempt to remove infection, decay and the associated discomfort.

NE Calgary Dentists at Discover Dental explain that root canal therapy is a procedure that is required due to the nerve of the tooth dying. The nerve, or pulp, of a tooth starts to die due to trauma or decay and becomes inflamed before eventually dying. Once the nerve of the tooth has died, infection becomes a concern as bacteria feed off the dead nerve, possibly leading to an abscess (localized collection of puss) forming at the tip of the root. Patients often express their shock at learning that their tooth has died because they are experiencing discomfort which makes them believe the tooth is very vital. The discomfort comes from the pressure that has built up in the tooth, and then biting down puts force on the abscess. A root canal alleviates the pain and discomfort almost immediately – and allows the tooth to remain in place.

Just like all areas of dentistry – technological advances and clinical training has enabled dentists to easily and effectively perform procedures that were once considered ‘dreaded appointments’ by patients. Root Canal Therapy has seen its share of advances, leading to greater success rate and patient satisfaction. One thing to mention is that once the nerve of a tooth has died, the tooth is no longer vital and over time becomes dry, brittle, and is at risk for fracturing. The risk of fracture is easily prevented by placing a crown on the tooth once healing from the root canal is complete. By placing a crown the tooth is protected and has a chance of lasting as long as a vital tooth.

Dentists at Discover Dental in NE Calgary work had to ensure that patients are aware of treatment options and solutions that will keep them healthy and happy. For more information on Root Canal Therapy or to schedule an appointment – call Discover Dental today 403.285.0222

New Year’s Resolutions range from weight loss, debt reduction, travelling to exotic locations, and getting a smile you’ve always wanted. NE Calgary Dentists at Discover Dental in Falconridge encourage patients who are interested in exploring options for correcting crooked teeth to consider a consultation for Invisalign Teeth Straightening System.

This group of NE General Dentists are experienced and knowledgeable in consulting on the many advantages Invisalign has to offer patients. Suitable for teenagers and adults – Invisalign is the perfect orthodontic option for patients who have buys lives and don’t require the use of orthodontic brackets to straighten their teeth. The beauty of Invisalign clear aligners is that they don’t involve the use of orthodontic wires or brackets but are custom made from a digital impression to fit securely on teeth. The other significant advantage of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable – making mealtimes an enjoyable and stress-free event. Invisalign technology has factored in the times in the day when aligners are removed – and gauges treatment time on the aligners being worn for approximately twenty-two hours a day.
Teenagers who wear Invisalign as an orthodontic solution find the ease of removing aligners comes in handy during sporting activities – especially when there is a need to wear a sportsguard. But another advantage of Invisalign clear aligners is that they are barely visible. Known as the ‘Clear Orthodontic Solution’ – Invisalign aligners are made from a BPA-free plastic that is smooth to touch – making it super comfortable for cheeks and lips – and nearly invisible to the eye. Because the aligners are custom made from a digital impression the fit is precise – creating an efficient system for moving teeth in to healthier positions in the mouth. Average Invisalign treatment time ranges from eighteen months to two years – with some cases taking longer due to treatment specifics.

Invisalign treatment involves wearing a set of aligners for approximately two weeks and then switching to the next set of aligners in the treatment plan. Switching to the next set of aligners continues until treatment is complete.

Invisalign is a trusted, effective, affordable method for straightening teeth – and is offered by Dentists and Orthodontists around the world. NE Calgary Dentist at Discover Dental welcome your enquiries regarding Invisalign treatment and invite you to contact the office today to schedule an appointment 403.285.0222

Seeing your NE Calgary Dentist and Hygienist for routine exams and cleanings throughout your pregnancy is one of the best things you can do for your health – and the health of your unborn child. According to Public Health Agency of Canada

“Taking care of your teeth and gums is very important when you are pregnant.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can increase your risk of developing periodontal (gum and bone) disease.

Poor oral health may also affect the health of your developing baby.”

A pregnant woman who has periodontal disease is at risk of delivering her baby prematurely and of the baby presenting with a low birth weight. For several years the link between infection and pre-term delivery has been the focus of research. It has been long been established that urinary tract infections can cause a woman to go in to premature labor due to causing a rapid increase in biological fluids that normally induce labor. Researchers suspect that the bacterial infection that is present when a woman has periodontal disease causes the same increase in biological fluids and risk for pre-term delivery. Periodontal disease isn’t something that should be ignored at any stage of life – but during pregnancy swift attention and intervention is required to ensure that the levels of bacteria are reduced and tissue health is restored.

Regular trips to your Calgary Dentist is recommended throughout your pregnancy as consistent monitoring of teeth, gums, and bone levels provides a Calgary Dental Team the opportunity to intervene if a patient’s dental health is compromised. The change in hormone levels during pregnancy causes gum tissue to react in an exaggerated manner to the increased formation of plaque. If you have a mild case of gingivitis prior to getting pregnant the likely-hood is high of it becoming worse as your pregnancy advances – so don’t delay seeing your Dentist at Discover Dental in NE Calgary to remove all existing deposits of plaque and calculus – and to establish the frequency of dental cleanings needed during your pregnancy.

NE Calgary Dentists at Discover Dental in Falconridge stress the importance of women maintaining regular cleanings and dental exams while pregnant. Advancement in dental technology and procedures makes it safe for Mom (and baby) to be in the dental chair and have some routine procedures performed. If you’re pregnant, or thinking of getting pregnant, schedule an appointment at Discover Dental to make sure your dental health is in optimum condition. Discover Dental is a General Dental practice in NE Calgary providing a range of services from teeth cleanings, x-rays, exams, to restorative procedures and cosmetic dentistry. Contact them today 403.285.0222

According to studies taken, poor dental health has been linked to several bad health problems – such as obesity and diabetes. These links are starting to prove that a strong dental health can help create a good overall health, which in turn will decrease healthcare costs.

“For every decrease in number of teeth, researchers observed increasing levels of Lp-PLA2, an enzyme that increases inflammation and promotes hardening of the arteries, as well as an increase in other cardiac risk markers including LDL or “bad” cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and waist circumference. Participants with fewer teeth also had higher probability of having diabetes, with the odds increasing by 11 percent for every decrease in number of teeth category.”

Adult Orthodontic treatment in Calgary can be an easy, comfortable, almost invisible option, when utilizing the many advantages of Invisalign. Invisalign® in Calgary is turned to as a viable orthodontic system for adults (and teens) who are seeking a bracket free alternative.

Can Anyone Wear Invisalign® in Calgary?
Any stigma that was once associated with wearing orthodontic brackets has long gone. It’s clear that the benefits of seeking orthodontic treatment far outweigh any esthetic negativity that was once associated with orthodontic care. Orthodontic treatment goes far beyond straightening teeth – as it’s addressing other dental issues such as jaw pain, chewing difficulties, abnormal wear on teeth and speech concerns. Whether an individual is fourteen or forty – orthodontic treatment in Calgary is used to address more than just crooked teeth. But the good news is that Invisalign’s® clear aligners do not require the use of brackets and are considered ‘nearly invisible’ – making Invisalign® a great option for an adult with a busy social and work life. Once you’ve had a consultation with your NE Calgary General Dentist or Orthodontist your orthodontic treatment can be diagnosed and the option of wearing Invisalign® can be discussed.

General Dentists in Calgary providing Invisalign® treatment have participated in continuing education so they are skilled in diagnosing and treating appropriate cases with Invisalign®. General Dentists at Discover Dental in NE Calgary offer Invisalign® to adult patients who would benefit from the clear aligners. Invisalign® offers a convenient solution for adult orthodontic care due to the lack of attention they draw to teeth. The subtlety of Invisalign® allows adult patients to go about their day with confidence – while taking comfort in knowing that their bite is being improved. Invisalign’s modern removable customized aligners gently and gradually move teeth in to better position by applying force. As treatment progresses the patient wears a new aligner – changing aligners approximately every two weeks – until the desired treatment goal is reached.

Invisalign’s® Technology
Invisalign® providers in Calgary have modern technology at their fingertips which utilizes 3D imaging to create an impression of a patient’s teeth. Using this 3D technology during the consultation a patient is able to view how their teeth will move during the various stages of treatment. Invisalign® aligners are custom-made to the 3D imaging – there’s no one size fits all approach – only customization that focuses on each individual case.

Seeing Your Calgary Dentist During Invisalign® Treatment
Patients who wear Invisalign aligners will change aligners approximately every two weeks. It’s important that the patient see their Calgary Invisalign® provider every six weeks so that it can be confirmed that the overall treatment plan is on schedule and correct tooth alignment is occurring. Compliance with the treatment plan is essential to the success of treatment – so taking aligners out only happens at meal times and for brushing and flossing. Maintaining regular dental cleanings during Invisalign® treatment will ensure that your new smile is not only beautifully straight but shining bright as well. NE Calgary Dentists at Discover Dental welcome new patients and are happy to explain the many benefits Invisalign® offers adult patients who are motivated to correct tooth alignment. Call this NE Calgary Dental office today and make a consultation to discover more about Invisalign®.
